THE BRITISH pop star, and west London native, Mabel has collaborated with young people affected by the Grenfell Tower fire to design a t-shirt to raise funds for their community. It is almost seven years since the fire at Grenfell Tower, North Kensington killed 72 people.

Many of those affected are now teenagers and young adults, Mabel and some of the young survivors, and those bereaved by the fire, have joined forces to design a t-shirt to raise money for The Grenfell Foundation.

Mabel says: “As a west London native, I am extremely passionate about supporting my community. Coming up to seven years since the Grenfell Tower Fire, many of the bereaved, survivors and community who were children at the time are now teenagers and young adults. As Grenfell continues to slip further away from the public’s minds, these young people are ready to have their say. These incredible young people have designed this beautiful T-shirt to raise money for the youth of North Kensington.

“The proceeds of the t-shirts will be held by The Grenfell Foundation and the young people will work together to decide how best this money is spent within the community. This project is about hope and justice after Grenfell but will hopefully also serve as a reminder that although our community is resilient, support is still needed.

“72 lives were taken and 7 years on, no one has been held accountable. We have come together on this project for both the continued fight for justice and to make sure we continue to provide opportunities for young people to heal and develop.”

Luana Gomes and Sara Chebiouni are two of the young people involved in the project. Luana added: “Being a part of this project with Mabel for Grenfell is a powerful way to contribute to healing and rebuilding, showing solidarity and support for the community. Seeking justice for Grenfell is a collective call to action, demanding truth, accountability, and change. Our voices can bring about change and ensure that such incidents are never repeated.”

“Grenfell was a symbol of the lack of humanity where profit was put before people and before life. This project is a call to action for the responsible to receive their consequences for the lives they stole,” said Sara.

Working with SPAARKD, the online platform hosting the sale of the t-shirts, Mabel and the young people have designed a t-shirt using innovative materials supplied by earth-positive brand Pangaia

Each t-shirt is made-to-order and sold through online platform SPAARKD. All profits from the T-shirt sales will be held by The Grenfell Foundation. The young people will work together to decide the best way to spend within the community.
